What I recommend: Omakase Eleven, Zuke Ikura, tuna with truffle infused ponzu jelly
We've been going to Yashin Ocean House or Yashin Sushi & Bar once a month for almost 3 years. We first came across it when we returned from our first trip to Japan, and were craving top grade sushi in London. It took one diner at the counter of Yashin Sushi on Argyll Road for us to fall in love with the place.
Yasuhiro Mineno and Shinya Ikeda opened Yashin Sushi and Bar in 2010, followed by Yashin Ocean House in 2013. The latter is centred around a head to tail dining concept, but serves the same omakase options as Yashin Sushi and Bar. Yashin Sushi & Bar has a bright shining sign saying "NO SOY SAUCE" above it's sushi counter. This is at the heart of the restaurant's concept and aims to preserve the pure flavour of the fish and the interesting pairing and toppings Mineno and Ikeda come up with.
Everytime we go, I go for the Omakase 8 or 11, complemented by 4-5 starters to share. Their Ikura bowl with truffle is a small piece of heaven and their tuna with truffle infused ponzu jelly is simply divine. Having now sampled the entire menu, I can confirm that you cannot go wrong, with any choice you make. I would however VERY strongly recommend selecting the Omakase as your piece de resistance. Each fish has a very carefully selected and source combination of toppings which to the purist may seem sacrilegious, but will win you over from the first bite.
On the rainiest day in recent weeks, we scuttled over to Ocean House for what was supposed to be a quick sample of their lunch menu. My partner ordered the menu (below) while I found myself incapable to resist the appeal of the omakase.
